McAfee Removal Tool Instructions

The following steps are helpful if you want to cleanly remove McAfee products from your machine. It can also help in fixing problematic installs and uninstalls.

Note: Make sure you have no other programs running before starting this process:

  1. Always begin by uninstalling the McAfee product via Add/Remove programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows 7):

  2. Click Start Removal Tool Start Button > Control Panel > Programs and Features Removal Tool Programs and Features. Select the McAfee product from the list of programs and select the uninstall button

  3. Restart your computer if prompted

  4. This can be enough for most programs. However, to cleanly uninstall McAfee antivirus or any other of their programs from your machine, download and run the McAfee Removal Tool:

  5. Download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (Opens New Window)

  6. Double left click the MCPR.exe file you have downloaded to your computer. Select Next on the first screen:

  8. At the license prompt select the Agree radio button then select the Next button:

  10. Enter the Security Validation in the white field below it. The characters on screen are CASE Sensitive. If the letter is a capital, enter it as a CAPITAL, e.g. LU3FJ. Then select the Next button:

  12. The Removal Tool will start to look for any McAfee programs it supports and remove them for you:

  14. Once the tool has finished, select the Restart button, followed by the Yes button to confirm:

  16. When your machine restarts, all installed McAfee programs should be removed. However, if you find you are having issues installing other anti virus programs, or notice any other issues, run the removal tool again.
